Description
Seltsam is an adapter that allows you to use the USB host ports on our FPGA computers as a simple low-speed UART. This is useful for computers like Vanille that have no other way to connect a simple UART, or when PMODs are being used for other purposes.
The USB-A male connector is on this adapter is non-standard in that it is intended to connect directly to an FPGA (through series resistors). You can configure the FPGA to transmit on FPGA DP (TX) and receive on FPGA DN (RX). You can then connect the adapter to a computer using the USB-C connector.
Notes: You can also achieve the same thing using a USB Type-A breakout adapter and a USB-UART adapter, but this is intended to be a more elegant integrated solution. Because the USB traces are routed as differential pairs there is potential for crosstalk especially at higher speeds, but we have successfully used this adapter at 115200bps to access a Linux console.
Coming soon.
